TRUE ROMANCE
Got a brief from LCAD to succeed in getting an interview i have to do a project on 'making the world a better place.' Had it for like ten days already and i've had a million different ideas most of them a bit too ambitious and farfetched for me to actually orchestrate but i think i have finally settled on something that i will like. Project ~spread the love~ is about recognising the beauty and wonder in everyday life and in all of us.. i hope! I want to avoid anything that is too girly or cliche valentines aesthetics and not make it too much like the 60's hippie counterculture either. Want it more poetic and romantic but still with fresh and exciting graphics. This is the first thing i've made, loving this typeface i just downloaded.

to feel good
Went to a bar today where people had written things all over the walls. Got me thinking. Since the last few months whenever I hear a really nice quote i write it down, here's what i have so far.
"I speak with the same tongue old poets spoke with." - Kate Tempest
"The idiots are cocksure, the intelligent are full of doubt." -Bertrand Russell
"You are not entitled to your opinion. You are entitled to your informed opinion. No one is entitled to be ignorant." -Harlan Ellison
"Art for arts sake." -Theophile Gautier
"To burn always with this hard, gem-like flame to maintain this ecstasy, is success in life." -Walter Pater
"They are not long, the days of wine and roses..." -Ernest Dowson
"You can have a cheap pen and some scrappy paper but write words on it that are worth five summers. Or more" - Some LCC graphics student
"We're all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars." -Charles Dickens
"You have to have confidence in your ability, and then be tough enough to follow through." -Rosalynn Carter
"Nothing in life is to be feared. It is only to be understood." -Marie Curie
"With freedom, books, flowers and the moon, who could not be happy? -Oscar Wilde
"Il faut tojours travailler." -Rodin
"Be mysterious. Be in love." -Alfred Jarry

David Lachapelle
Don't like his work so much, find it a bit too vulgar, sometimes visually sickening and well.. american. But he does have some fantastic ideas and it's fun to see celebrities in this light when the media these days makes such a big deal when they do one little thing wrong. Acting crazy and being outrageously sexy is human nature, i think. Anyway Lachapelle celebrates this and i love it. Here's my top pick.

how to overcome idea-to-idea syndrome
I am definitely suffering from this at the moment, very easy to get caught up with new ideas and distract yourself when you have a project that you know will take a long time and be lots of work. Love the chart especially.
A surplus of ideas is as dangerous as a drought.
Idea-to-idea syndrome is the tendency to launch new ideas while still executing other ideas. As soon as an idea becomes an active project, we become burdened by the minutia of execution. Long days and late nights cause us to get lost in what I have come to call the "project plateau"—the part of a project when excitement and energy run low and the end is still out of sight. The quickest escape from the project plateau is simple. Conceive a new idea. Immediately, when you get excited about something new and shiny, your hopes lift as your creative juices kick in. But, as a result, your previous idea is left stranded in the project plateau amidst other carcasses of abandoned ideas.
You know someone is plagued with idea-to-idea syndrome when they have multiple active-yet-abandoned projects. There will always be one project—the latest one—that is getting the spotlight. And then, soon, another idea will take its place.
How to develop an immune system.
Your body is protected by a powerful immune system that, when it is working properly, kills off anything foreign. Viruses and other foreign pathogens meet a swift death. Similarly, as a creative individual, you will need to develop an immune system that kills off premature or distracting ideas. Of course, when you're actually brainstorming, you will want to suppress your immune system to allow for the free-flow of ideas good and bad, but during day-to-day execution, only your immune system will fend off a bout of idea-to-idea syndrome.
Thomas Edison knew what he was talking about when he famously quipped, "genius is 1 percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration." He was saying that all great achievements are the result of tireless execution. Inspiration should be, to some degree, restrained—especially for those of us who are addicted to it.
The greatest partnerships in the creative world involve a balance of dreamers and doers. Dreamers are motivated by visions of the future while doers are focused on the task at hand and get nervous when anything new gets in the way. By hiring and empowering skeptics to be critical and challenge our love for new ideas, we can keep long-term projects alive.
If you work solo, then try to involve "sober monitors" when you consider new ideas. We all know people that don't get high on inspiration and prefer to live a more grounded and cautious existence. Truth is, we typically exclude them from our creative endeavors. They're just not as fun. However, their role is absolutely critical when it comes to making ideas happen.

salts mill
Was lucky enough to go to the salts mill in saltaire last week, i had forgotten what a wonder it is. Air is fragranced with lilies and classical musical playing while you see the art and all very interesting books. Very relaxing and romantic atmosphere, i will have to go and spend the day soon as i only made a quick visit. Definitely a yorkshire gem. Had beautiful christmas tree and a polar bear that actually moved!
I have a troubled heart lately it's very distracting, i'm walking round parks and art galleries hoping for some perfect romantic encounter.. maybe i get happy soon. Right now i feel like robert smith.

YSP
Visited yorkshire sculpture park today with the lovely lauren feather. It was cold but worth it to be in such a beautiful natural place.. only enhanced by all the amazing sculptures. I like walking around you never know what you might come across behind a bush, there's lots of wild animals and a frozen lake. I would like very much to be involved with putting together an exhibition here it's such an exciting and inspiring place. My favourite thing was an interactive area that played music when it sensed you moving around, badly explained but very nice. Here are some photos.
There used to be a little art college in the park but now it's closed down, would be such a wonderful, picturesque place to study. I think i have chosen where I'm going to apply for uni.. in no particular order.. here it is-
1 Bath Spa
2 Kingston
3 Camberwell
4 Bristol
5 Leeds Art
I think these are good choices. Let's hope i get it right this time.
